The first British Thyroid Foundation Research Award was made in 1997 and has since been awarded annually. The value of the award is currently £10,000 per annum and is intended to enable medical researchers to supplement existing projects or for pump-priming new research ideas. Research should be specifically directed to the study of thyroid disorders or investigations into the basic understanding of thyroid function.
An application form for the award is available from the British Thyroid Foundation, via the website, normally around Easter time, and the closing date for applications is normally 31st August of the same year. The applications are assessed by a panel of expert referees from the British Thyroid Association in conjunction with the British Thyroid Foundation and the result is announced on the website in the Autumn.
The British Thyroid Foundation Research award is made possible through the generous donations of members of the British Thyroid Foundation.
