Butterflynortheast is a voluntary thyroid cancer support system available to patients having treatment at the Northern Centre for Cancer Treatment. Everyone involved has either had the disease or been involved in the care and support of someone who has. Says Kate Farnell who founded the group following her own diagnosis with the disease in 2000, "We aim to offer support, information and encouragement to people affected by thyroid cancer via our one-to-one 'buddy system', dedicated telephone helpline, attendance at oncology clinics, group meetings, hospital visits and reliable written information".
