Bolton
Our thanks go to Clare Inkster, consultant ophthalmologist, from the Royal Bolton Hospital, who joined us on Saturday 8th March. Clare spoke on thyroid eye disease, its cause and treatment. In her talk she emphasised that if you smoke and have thyroid eye diseae the single most important thing you can do to help yourself is to stop smoking. She also acknowledged the great psychological effect of thyroid eye disease on people. Clare's talk was extremely interesting and well received by those attending. Edinburgh
The Edinburgh group continues to meet on the last Tuesday of every month at 7.15 pm in Liberton High School, Gilmerton Road, Edinburgh, EH17 7PT. Our programme for the next 6 months is as follows:
Tuesday 29th April Dr Mike Spencer (psychiatrist) will be joining us to speak on "Thyroid Disorders and Psychological Problems".
At present we are aiming to have a speaker at every third meeting with the meetings in-between being support meetings when people can drop in for a chat. Kettering
The Kettering group joined the Osteoporosis group at the Kettering Park Hotel in June with a display to promote the BTF. Around 100 local people attended the information event. My thanks to the hotel for hosting the event. Our thanks also to our local Sainsbury's supermarket for allowing us to make a collection at their premises - £300 for BTF funds was collected. Thanks to all who helped at the event.

Our next meeting will be held at 7 pm on Tuesday, 17th June 2008 when we will be joined by Dr Indi Banerjee, Paediatric Endocrinologist at Manchester Children's Hospital, who will be speaking about paediatric endocrinology. Milton Keynes
On Saturday 8th March, Stephen Gunther, health promotional specialist (obesity) and Gerald Remy, community dietician and facilitator of the HALO project (Health and Lifestyle Opportunities) were the guest speakers at our Information Event, held at the Open University.
Stephen gave an overview of the rise in obesity in the UK and what current recommendations and facilities are available in the Milton Keynes area to promote physical activity.
Gerald provided an update on the most recent research on healthy eating and discussed the HALO project, which is a programme designed to help people lose weight.
Their lively talks stimulated lots of discussion and group interactio and prompted us all to review our dietary and exercise habits. We are grateful that Stephen and Gerald gave up their Saturday morning to come along and share their knowledge and expertise.

The Oxford Group of the British Thyroid Foundation has a meeting arranged at the North Oxford Association, Diamond Place, just of Banbury Road in Summertown, North Oxford. Parking costs approximately 60p - 70p. The meeting will take place on Wednesday 9th April. This is an informal meetings to discuss common problems.
