Patient information day: thyroid guidelines update

Come along to our next information event on Saturday 8 February where medical professionals and patients will discuss the latest guidelines on the mangement of thyroid disease.

The meeting will take place at The Abbey Centre, 34 Great Smith Street, Westminster, London SW1P 3BU from 10.30 to 16.00. The registration fee, which includes lunch and refreshments, is £15 for BTF members and £25 for non-members. *

The aim of the meeting is to provide information about the current best practice guidelines for the management of thyroid disorders in so far as they affect adults. In particular speakers will focus on the NICE guidelines which will be published in November 2019. The meeting will not cover thyroid eye disease, pregnancy, thyroid surgery or thyroid cancer.

We have lined up some excellent speakers, most of whom were members of the NICE committee. They include GPs, endocrinologists, a biochemist and a specialist in radioactive iodine therapy and patient experts. There will be plenty of opportunities to ask questions throughout the day. The provisional programme for the day can be found here.

Depending on interest we will run parallel sessions on:

(1) Treatment for hyperthyroidism with radioactive iodine; and

(2) Treatment of hypothyroidism with liothyronine (L-T3)

To help us plan the event please indicate on the registration form if you have a preference for either of these topics.
