In October 2015 at the age of 53, I was diagnosed with free T3 toxicosis, having an overactive thyroid and so exhibiting symptoms of hyperthyroidism. The left lobe being very significantly enlarged. Two attempts were made with radioactive iodine to resolve the condition with no success and so in September 2021 I had a total thyroidectomy at Sunderland General Hospital to give a definitive solution and I made a full recovery. My time for the run was 2 hours 45 minutes, not my fastest time it has to be said, which I prefer to believe is due more to the fact that it was the hottest GNR on record than anything else!   Once the run was completed by contrast there was very heavy rain which meant that getting home took several hours. Previously  I ran the GNR in 2016 for the BTF in 1 hour 58 minutes.

Ian raised £75.00 for the BTF
