Barbara’s diagnosis with thyroid cancer came as a major shock to her. Having now largely recovered from her thyroidectomy and neck dissection, she recently walked the West Highland Way. Over seven days, Barbara covered 87 miles taking in some glorious sights along the way. Unfortunately, she was unable to
cover the last nine miles due to aches and sore feet. Two days late, Barbara then tested positive for Covid-19 but she aims to go back next year and cover the remaining part of the route.

Barbara said: I will be on medication for the rest of my life. However, I’m a glass half-full person and intend to get on with life. My treatment has been excellent and I appreciate I will never be fully normal again (never was anyway)! I took this challenge for the BTF as they support thousands of people across the UK living with thyroid disorders and also fund vital research into thyroid disease. As well as my own thyroid issues, hypothyroidism also affects other close members of my family.

Barbara raised £895 for our work.

Barbara midway! Barbara and her friend!
